Effortless Expansion Episode #068: Vulnerability Is A Gift
As I sat down to record this podcast, I found myself reflecting on the past six, seven, and eight months of my life, which have led me to embrace a state of vulnerability. Many people have referred to my ability to be open and vulnerable as a gift, yet to me, it's simply natural.
In this episode, I want to talk about the significance of vulnerability. What it truly means, how it feels, and the remarkable transformations it can bring into our lives. The reason I felt compelled to discuss this topic today is because I realized the importance of vulnerability, not only for myself but for everyone who struggles with it.
Earlier this week I opened up to my coach, Echo Summer Hill, revealing my emotions, particularly the feelings of unworthiness that I was feeling in that moment. I found myself waiting for her response and as I reflected upon the situation, it made me wonder if I use vulnerability as a way to seek reassurance.
Do I share my feelings in a quest for someone to validate them?
But the truth is, I don't need external reassurance to validate my worth. It's an intrinsic knowledge that resides within me. So, when I share my vulnerabilities, it's not to seek approval; it's to express my authentic self.
The vulnerability I showed in that moment wasn't about needing validation or someone to fix my emotions. It was about acknowledging and expressing how I felt and releasing those emotions that did not serve me. This experience, in particular, made me reflect on the significance of vulnerability.
In fact, the recent significant life changes that my husband, Nick, and I have embarked upon, including making crucial decisions for our family, selling our dream home, and constructing a new one, have made me aware of how much I wear my heart on my sleeve.
I've always been open and vulnerable, unapologetically showing my true self.
I don't sugarcoat things, and I share my feelings and insights with genuine authenticity. But I also recognize that the concept of vulnerability isn't about sugarcoating or wearing a mask. It's about being completely and unapologetically oneself, irrespective of the situation or audience.
My ultimate goal, and one I believe all of us should aspire to, is to be authentically ourselves every moment of every day, in every scenario.
Vulnerability isn't just about showing emotions; it's about owning them. It's about daring to express your truth and share your innermost thoughts and feelings, without needing external validation.
So, I encourage you to reflect on your own journey with vulnerability. Are there conversations you've been hesitating to have, thoughts you've been unable to voice, or fears that have kept you from expressing your truth?
Is there an idea that has remained unsaid in a meeting because you feared it wouldn't be well-received? Have you been trapped in a box you're desperate to escape from but haven't dared to reveal your true desires?
The first step is acknowledging the need to embrace vulnerability, let your walls down, and step out of the box society may have placed you in. Start with those challenging conversations, allow yourself to express your truth, and let people see you as you are.
I've often been told that vulnerability is a gift, and it's something that's second nature to me. I don't view it as a gift, but I do recognize the reluctance that many people have when it comes to being vulnerable.
So, I'd love to hear from you. Send me a direct message on Instagram, and let's talk about vulnerability. How comfortable are you with it? How do you respond to others when they open up and show their vulnerabilities? How do you support them?
The more we can show up authentically, embracing our vulnerabilities and letting others see us, the more we unlock the incredible power of vulnerability.
I look forward to hearing from you, and I'll see you in my DMs.
